An alternative Mother’s Day!
Words: Mr Luke Christian
Carrying on the theme for our top picks on where to go in Leeds for this Mother’s Day, this post will be focusing more on the quirky, independently run businesses within Leeds!
THE MOST AESTHETICALLY PLEASING DONUTS & COFFEE!
Temple Coffee is a recent addition to the Leeds coffee-shop scene and can be found hidden away underneath Kirkstall Bridge. With a whole range of delicious warm drinks to choose from, many of the ‘Specials’ are definitely worth checking out! The Black Sabbath is a firm favourite of ours, along with the Pink Floyd. You won’t be disappointed! For this Mother’s Day, why not treat her to a tasty doughnut and take in the rock n roll atmosphere and have a browse at the many items on offer designed by Red Temple Prayer! A word of warning, the doughnuts sell out pretty quickly which is no surprise due to how tasty they are, so do get there early to avoid disappointment!
EXPLORE ALL OF WHAT LEEDS ART GALLERY HAS TO OFFER!
Have a leisurely wander around the Leeds Art Gallery and view the many exhibitions the Gallery has to offer such as their stunning sculptures, artwork and installations. The Gallery is open from 11-3pm this Mother’s Day and best of all, it is free admission! The ground floor of Leeds Art Gallery is where you will find the more traditional paintings and on the top floor is where you’ll find the more contemporary and modern pieces. Once you have seen all there is within the Gallery, why not enjoy some tea and refreshments within the Gallery’s cafe!
SHOP ‘TIL YOU DROP WITH YOUR MOTHER AT VICTORIA GATE!
With many shops to choose from at Victoria Gate such as John Lewis, The White Company, Calvin Klein, COS, Anthropologie and many more, there is sure to be something to treat your Mother to! Inside of Victoria Gate, you will be stunned by the incredible architecture of the shopping centre and once you have hit all of the shops, why not take your Mother to the Victoria Gate Casino afterwards? This Mother’s Day, Victoria Gate Casino are offering two courses for £12 from 12pm-9pm in their luxurious V Restaurant. Or if you’re more of a fan of ‘Afternoon Tea’ then why not treat your Mother to a selection of finger sandwiches, cakes, coffee, tea and more for £13.30 each! Within the Casino you will also find their other bars such as Live Bar which has a wide selection of beers and sports to watch on their huge sports screen, and Curve Bar that has many cocktails to choose from!
GOT A SWEET TOOTH? HEAD TO MRS ATHA’S!
A little coffee shop hidden away behind House Of Fraser, Mrs Atha’s is a family-run business which offers a wide selection of tea, coffee, cakes and nibbles! On the menu are also many vegan, gluten free and dairy free options. The interior is dark and has a cosy feel to the place that feels warm and inviting. If your Mother has a sweet tooth, then we recommend you try out their pancakes, stacked with blueberries on top!
WITH MANY OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM, HAM & FRIENDS IS A SURE WINNER!
A wine bar, a wine shop, a restaurant, a food hall and a deli can all be found here in one place at Ham & Friends! Found within The Grand Arcade, the minimalistic interior and slick decor spread across 2 floors is aesthetically pleasing (perfect for those Instagram shots!), and with many options to choose from such as their ethically-produced wine and quality produce, this is sure to be a winner this Mother’s Day!
