Fish’n Impossible at the Wetherby Whaler for National Fish and Chip Day
Words by Luke Hudson
As the nation celebrates its love of Fish and Chips, the Wetherby Whaler in Guiseley launches a new food challenge. The Fish’n Impossible meal consists of a 1 lb haddock fillet, heaps of chips, mushy peas, baked beans, curry sauce and onion rings. Not to mention the classic bread and butter. This is all complimented by a pot of our Yorkshire Tea.
The rules of the challenge are simple: it has to be finished in 40 minutes, no loo breaks allowed, and absolutely no sharing. In addition to bragging rights, those successful will win a limited edition t-shirt and a place in the Wetherby Whaler hall of fame.
As well as being a perfect excuse to tuck into the much loved meal, Fish and Chip day is all for a good cause. The charity Fishermen’s Mission supports all those involved in the process of delivering the food we all love in our restaurants and homes. The day is to raise awareness and donations so they can continue their work.
The vintage chic décor of the restaurant and family friendly atmosphere makes it a great place to enjoy a nice meal – or to even take on the Fish’n Impossible; if you’re up to it.
As for my efforts, let’s just say I didn’t quite complete the challenge. There was easily enough food here to keep me fed for weeks, and with hindsight, I wish I had taken a friend or two to sneakily help me out.
And even though my name may never reside in the hall of fame my valiant effort was lots of fun – you could say I had a whale of a time.
