As part of our _Interwoven Histories_ [http://www.pavilion.org.uk/programme/interwoven/] project, Pavilion present Christine Choy’s 1976 film _From Spikes to Spindles_. This raw portrait bears witness to the early days of an emerging consciousness in New York’s Chinatown community during the mid-’70s. We see a Chinatown rarely depicted, a vibrant community whose young and old join forces to protest police brutality and hostile real estate developers. Woven through the film are reminders that this is a community built by workers: from the early labourers driving spikes into the transcontinental railroad, to the garment industry workers of the day. The film will be presented against the backdrop of our current _Interwoven Histories_ exhibition at Armley Industrial Museum.
