Local storyteller Matthew Bellwood brings to life a selection of macabre tales from the golden age of the ghost story. Featuring _Lost Hearts_ – M.R. James’s grisly account of black magic in the Midlands; _The Shadow_ – Edith Nesbitt’s haunting saga of thwarted love; and Lucy Clifford’s_The New Mother_ – possibly the world’s most brutal children’s story. Laced together with a thread of black humour and framed by a set of traditional English ghost ballads, these are tales to chill the blood and freeze the marrow. THE UNQUIET DEAD is a promenade performance that will visit a number of the library’s spookiest spots – offering a glimpse into the hidden corners of one of the city’s most beautiful Victorian buildings.
